Automated Trading Risks

SmartSwing uses automated algorithms and AI to make trading decisions. You should be aware of the following specific risks:

• Algorithm risk -- Trading strategies are based on historical patterns that may not repeat in the future. Market conditions change, and strategies that worked historically may fail.
• AI model risk -- AI-generated analysis, signals, and recommendations may be incorrect, misleading, or based on incomplete data. AI models can hallucinate or produce unreliable outputs.
• Technology risk -- System failures, network outages, software bugs, or latency issues may prevent timely execution of trades, leading to unexpected losses.
• Market risk -- Sudden market crashes, flash crashes, or extreme volatility events can cause losses that exceed normal risk parameters.
• Liquidity risk -- In some market conditions, it may not be possible to exit positions at desired prices.
• Overnight risk -- Swing trading involves holding positions overnight and over weekends, exposing you to gap risk from after-hours events.

Paper Trading vs. Live Trading

SmartSwing supports both paper (simulated) and live trading through Alpaca. Paper trading results do not reflect real market conditions and should not be used to predict live trading performance. Slippage, partial fills, and market impact are not accurately simulated in paper trading.
